> Functionary Roles
NOTE: Club Roles are not to be confused with Club Rolls or Club Sandwiches. However, if someone wants to donate a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost to the club, that could be our Club Rolls. |
Toastmaster Prepares the meeting agenda and controls the flow of the meeting, introducing the speakers and other functionaries. Sets the tone and pace of the meeting. Also brings pizza for everyone. (Well, we can hope!) Jester Starts the meeting off with a laugh! Table Topics The Table Topic Master asks a question and selects a member - who gives a short, impromptu speech on the topic. Questions vary from the serious to the hilariously absurd! General Evaluator Provides a general evaluation of the meeting. Also introduces the speech evaluators and calls for reports from the Timer, Grammarian, and the Ah Counter.
Timer
Time is Illusion Grammarian The grammarian helps everyone build their vocabulary by selecting a Word of the Day, which is used during table topics. Also monitors the general grammar of the speakers. Ah Counter The Ah Counter counts the filler words, like "ah," or "um," or, like, you know, and, well, like lets everyone know how many, uh, infractions they, um, had. Speaker The prepared speeches are the primary feature of the meeting. Speakers give a prepared speech, usually from one of the speech manuals. Speeches vary from 5 to 15 minutes. Evaluator The evaluation is the core of what makes Toastmasters work. Each Speaker receives immediate positive feedback, and one or two points for improvement. An evaluation is also an impromptu 2-3 minute speech for the evaluator. |
