Time flies when you’re having fun…or you simply don’t make something a priority! For me, I have not blogged for over a year, and it is time to update. Does anyone read the blog? I sure would like to know. We would love any feedback you would share, yay or nay, guest or member. We have elected new officers two times since I last wrote. Our officers for the term July-December 2019 are Scott McPheters, President; Carol McPheters, VP Education; Maya Elizabeth Sullivan, VP Membership; Mike Norris, VP Public Relations; Steve Cicero, Secretary; Cindy Essary, Treasurer; and Dien Vong, Sgt@Arms. The club has lost some wonderful members in the past year, but new members have come in. We hover around 40. It’s always sad to see people move on, but move on they must. And it’s exciting and invigorating to have new members, to see how they grow and advance in their speaking and leadership skills. That’s what Toastmasters is all about! We will have our club contest on September 23rd, and then the winners will compete in the Area contest, to be held on Saturday, October 5th, which is being co-chaired by our very own Cindy Essary and Nancy Stoll. Lorna Speid is our incoming Area 27 director. Jane Schmitz was our 2018-2019 Area director. SmoothTalkers is a strong club, and many of our members have taken on leadership roles with the district. In addition to Laura and Jane, we presently have five other past area directors in the club! We are looking for members who work at Qualcomm! You would benefit by probably being able to walk to our meeting room after work. We are a diverse group professionally, culturally, and age-wise. You would benefit from all that Toastmasters has to offer: improved speaking skills, improved leadership skills, and improved listening skills. What a great way to spend your Monday evenings. We want YOU! | AuthorJaney Wassel, DTM, is the longest attending member of SmoothTalkers. |
